16. Rauher Kulm
The Rauhe Kulm is a striking volcano in the Upper Palatinate and a protected natural monument. The mountain is more than 680 meters high and offers beautiful views of the Fichtel Mountains and the Upper Palatinate Forest. The hiking trails lead to the basalt block dump, to historic rock cellars, and to the 25-meter-high lookout tower on top of the basalt cone.
The 1722 meter high Wallberg offers a fantastic view over the Tegernsee valley and the Bavarian Alps. 18. Rock wall
The Rotwand in the Mangfall Mountains is ideal for a fun day out in Bavaria. There are several relatively easy hikes up the mountain from Spitzingsee. But you can also take the Taubensteinbahn to just below the top of the neighboring Taubenstein, which is almost 1,700 meters high, and leave from there. In winter, the area is widely used for ski touring.
The beautiful Freibergsee in Oberallgäu is one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in Bavaria. It is the largest high mountain lake in the Allgäu and can only be reached by a short walk. There are also longer roads to the lake, such as the Edmund-Probst-Weg with beautiful mountain views. The clear water is ideal for swimming and there is even a small boat rental.
20. Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is best known around the world for its well-preserved old town and it is not for nothing that it is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. The town is also the southernmost point of the famous Franconian wine country with old wine bars and a grape variety trail.
